LOP Fishing Report 02-15-16
Water stained; 50-55 degrees; 7’ high.
Black bass - Black Bass have been in high numbers lately, with the spawn coming on they are moving shallow. Males are found scattered out and in small pods. Staging females have been more difficult to find due to the high water. When I have found them they have been isolated in small pods of a few nice fish. My go to baits this time of year are Alabama Rigs, Spinnerbaits, Lipless Crankbaits,Weightless Senkos, and T-Rigged craws/Lizards.
Crappie - The crappie bite never got into full swing due to the mild winter and high water. They are scattered out in deeper water and best caught by drifting and covering water. Some have been found in the creek from time to time in the upper end as they continue their spawning migrations up river.
Catfish- Channel cat have been loving the high water this winter. we have caught numerous 2 man limits this winter on rod/reel and Jugs. Smaller catfish have came from fishing in the creek on the upper end with cut shad and night crawlers, while the bigger fish have come on jugs with cut shad and rod and reel floating a bait in the sloughs around brush.
